All I have to do ....is dream......dream,dream,dream....dream
Nine,Ten, Never Sleep......Again
Ok ,another thought.(Damn whats in this Guinness??)
Maybe the new/backstory could be told as such.
Its years after Freddy has taken any children in their dreams. The town
of Springwood is quiet again A socially awkward, unremarkable Janitor(in
his early 20's) is working on cleaning up a storeroom in the Springwood
police station,he also janitors for the local high school, when he comes
across a file full of papers about Krueger. Intrigued by what he
reads, since he reads all kinds of True Crime novels, he sneaks it home
with him. No one at the Police station pays him much attention,he goes
thru much of life unnoticed,so its easy for him to get away with this
act.At home he reads the files, the murder scene reports, the body
descriptions, and imagines what it must have looked like(providing us
the viewer with Real Freddy scenes).
His interest is obviously peeked and in his free time he seeks out
newspapers at the library to learn more about this Nightstalking Child
killer. But of course ,he discovers the towns attempts to hide the
history. So perhaps our janitor friend has a drinking bud or meets a
David Lynch type character who collects newspapers, with stacks upon
stacks filling up his home, and just happens to have a set of Krueger
reports. giving access to more Krueger history- the trial information,
the murders, what is known about Krueger's past, why Kruger says he hates
and wanted to kill all those kids(maybe in the trial transcripts, and
this is a stretch but hear me out,Freddy reveals why he killed(he hated
the way the rich snotty Springwoodians made fun of and abused him ,his
family,etc-see other post),thinking that he's caught and what does he
care, but all this is before its revealed that the search warrant wasn't
signed in the right place,(would this be a valid confession??sorry ,I
don't watch Law n Order,lol)- all of this which we would see in
flashbacks in the Janitors imagining of the events hes reading.
Well here is the twist ,of sorts, the Janitor begins to relate to
Krueger. He works at a high school ,and sees the abuse the kids heap on
one another and even towards himself. Maybe he could even be a little
unhealthy puppy-loved obsessed with a young girl at school who he sees
getting picked on all the time ,and maybe this girl gets abused to the
point of where she takes her own life, perhaps in the basement of the
school near the boilers,heheh.
His already unhealthy Freddy obsession, overall abusive life n
surroundings, coupled with his crush love on the girl and impacted by her
avoidable death, and amplified by his loneliness and empty life allows for
the anger within him to grow to the point where he feels the calling and
takes up the glove. But his copycat killings cause the town folk to think
"you know who "is back in business and the fear begins to grow. This
fear in turn awakens a sleepy but real Krueger who visits our Janitor in
his dreams, and teaches him about how he did it in his day.Showing the
Janitor flashback montages of Krueger's own past exploits. And telling
the Janitor who to kill next so Freddy's name will get told to more
townsfolk faster, so Krueger can become more feared in the real world
and grow stronger.(I know,I know, this bit harkens to F vs.J, but this was
all sketched out by me years before that movie, basing it off the
conversation Nancy n Glen had on the bridge-This version is just with a
slightly more controllable Jason)
Eventually our Janitor would be killed by a cop, or heck ,why not
another round of vigilante parents.History does have a nasty habit of
repeating itself. And after this, The parents would think it was just a
temporary nightmare,a copycat Fred, but the damage would be done, the
Kids would now think of Freddy again and be afraid of getting snatched
in the night.
Now It may be going to far to name the Janitor Fred as well but if we
did, than the kids on the playground would speak of Fred the janitor
when they talked of scary things, but the parents would think of the Real
Freddy, either way the fear would be growing in both parents and
child.Fear of the man who comes for them at night when they dream, asleep
in their beds.Leaving Fred poised for his next adventure.Hmmm sleep, not
a bad idea right about now.......
Ok, another thought before I partake of those little slices of death.....
Freddy's Dead is a thorn in the telling of this story because it
introduced so many unnecessary, and awkward elements to Freddy's character
makeup. I just find it hard to accept that Freddy wasn't a loner, abused
by everyone he trusted in his life till he locked himself away from all
human companionship.
Angry and full of self-hate ,since hes never known love of any kind, I
picture him seeing the happy families, the playful children, the love,
as he drove thru the streets of Springwood, all this fueling his jealous
rage. He would show these parents how dark and nasty this world can be,
he would spoil their happiness, that they, in his eyes, gleefully
flaunted before him.So the idea of him finding a woman, getting married
and having a kid just seems odd.Although the idea that your next door
neighbor with a family all his own in your comfy cozy neighborhood
could be a maniacal madman whose been slaughtering your children is no
less disturbing and scary, I just didn't think it was true to the
character. But it exists, and cannot be outright ignored.
However, the one aspect of the Final Nightmare that I did admire was the
Town without children concept. That was a creepy idea that should have
been better explored.Perhaps this could be utilized to better effect in
the telling of Freddy's First murders. A town without children would draw
attention to itself, a town with an insanely amount of sleep deaths
would raise questions as well. Maybe our story could revolve around the
idea that a detective hired by a family member from out of town,or a
team of reporters searching for a fascinating story, or a FBI
investigation team is drawn to the town because of these issues. And
through their exploration of the towns history, and the known facts
reported concerning Freddy we learn about Fred's history. Court
transcripts could lead to imagined flashes of Freddy's supposed first
murder with the glove. Each murder memory would have to be of some
significance leading to Freddy's capture. Maybe the murder of Nancy's
sister could be the last one before his capture. This would certainly
drive LT Thompson to want to catch the killer anyway anyhow, and in his
anger cause him to not dot the I's and cross the T's in procedure.I
still like the idea that Nancy had a sister, sure we never heard of her
in the original movie, but in all honesty, Nancy would have been a mere
child when it happened, if she was born at all, why would you tell a kid
her sister was murdered even after the younger sister grew up??And
Nancy's Mom was always drunk, probably became a drunk because of her part
in Freddy's burning and the grief from the loss of her child, so its not
like she would think it important or remember to tell.
Now of course, we all would want to see Freddy in all his pizza face
glory, so at some point we would have to work him back into the present.
The most obvious way is that one of the people involved in researching
Freddy actually grows to fear him. I'm guessing the best way to do this
is one of the detective/FBI agents has a child of her own, not with her
on this job, but back home, and its her fear that something like what
happened to the children of Springwood, might happen to her child. So she
starts having Nightmares of watching Freddy chase her daughter. So she
fears Freddy, or the idea of Freddy taking her child. And one night, she
has this dream, and Freddy actually catches the daughter. The Mother
wakes the next morning to be told her daughter was found murdered. All
this could than lead into topic of research as to why the similar MO
deaths of the Springwood children continued after Freddy's
Murder.Freddy, strengthened by his first child kill in ages, goes after
the Mother.Maybe at this point, the story would weave Freddy history
with the Mothers dreams, giving her insight into something the court
papers don't know, leading the research team in a certain direction. How
Freddy would grow to be a problem again in the dream world, and not too
these select few participants, would have to be determined, how to make
others dream/fear of him?Perhaps the main players in this story are
reporters making a documentary for some tabloid show that is very
popular, and the exposure of the program opens up a door for Freddy.
Maybe the story would end with the town of Springwood going under a new
development, where some rich big wig has bought up the cheap vacated
land and wants to sell new families on the town as some new suburban
paradise.
Thought......
There is something that I have always wanted to see in a Nightmare film,
or at least explained. And it is the moment between where Freddy dies in
the fire and wakes up in his first post death dream. That moment in time
has always fascinated me about Freddy. What happened? How was the
transition? Was it instant? or did he wake up years later? Was he
"conscious " during these years before he could act on his rage?. Whose
was the first dream he invaded? Was it really Tina,or were there other
kids outside the original movies core that Freddy got too first? Did he
at first just watch ? participate?Know that he could hurt the person and
have the violence be real? And does Freddy remain in his boiler room hell
between dream kills?(which I guess is some kind of ironic punishment in
hell for Freddy, hes "alive" and killing in a dream but still trapped in
his boiler room, surrounded by fire, which led to his undoing.Sure the
boiler room was a place of comfort to him, the place where he took his
kids, but I would think it would be aggravating to be surrounded by the
place where you were burned alive,But than again, hes dead ,what does he
care,lol).
What happens to Freddy when the kids aren't sleeping/dreaming?Where does
he go?Does he go anywhere , or just mosey around thru hell?Does he only
become a active being when the kids sleep and stops being when they are
awake?
This was all before the Dream Demons were introduced that I imagined
what happened. ......
Ok...Dream Demons......
Interesting idea, POORLY executed. I mean c'mon, giant floating wiggly
burnt sperm??
But another problem to throw on the fire of Freddy's beginnings. At some
point, they would have to be brought into the story to remain consistent
with all of the ideas introduced into the Freddy 'verse. We would have to
learn when Freddy firs learned of them.Maybe there was a certain number
of kills Freddy had to achieve to call them forth.Maybe they contacted
Freddy in his dreams. But what to do with them to make them interesting
and not silly? I'm guessing they would have to teach Freddy his dream
skills.Perhaps in the training of Freddy, the Dream Demons use Freddy's
pain from living, they remind and show him what hes been thru, where hes
come from, why he should/wants to make the Elm Street parents pay.And it
would be thru these reminders that we learn the history of Freddy. This
way we could get an equal mix of Freddy in makeup as well as out.
T-T-T-T-Thats all for now, folks. Until next time, when I bring to you my
random thoughts on a Living Dead movie I would like to see.
