Goonies Never Say Die (Second half of the story)

Goonies 2: Never Say Die! part

Ok, while coming down from the emotional roller coaster that was the season 2 finale episode of Hannibal.....mmmm so shiny...so spooky...more please

I found myself struck with the oddest of choices for an image for my mind to take hold on to:Mikey Walsh standing on the bow of Brands ship sailing forward towards adventure.

When we last left our Goonies, they had just "opened" a treasure chest ,discovering a skull, with a map clenched between its jaws and a pirate's periscope rammed in its left eye. There is more to One Eyed Willies treasure. You don't think he hid everything in one place?

Upon closer inspection the Goonies discover that the map leads to a location of a small island. Now this island exists only in the Goonie 'verse, and can not be found on any modern map. So , put those suspenders on that disbelief.

So the gang sets sail for treasure island. Here I'm picturing a ship similar to the boat owned by Quint in Jaws, you know , for a nice nudge nudge wink wink.  Mikey stands at the front, pirate hat planted on his head, smile stuck on his face. Somewhere in the back, Mouth is tossing his internal chum overboard.

Not far behind , the Fratelli's are following in their own boat. Her Captain ,ready for revenge. They have been keeping an eye on the gang ,listening in and waiting to steal the rich stuff. At one point Data would spot them with his "Binoculars of Boosting", and as the Fratellis boat closes the distance there is a bit of a battle as the Fratellis shoot at the Goonies, and the Goonies throw everything, including the boats kitchen sink at their attackers. The Goonies manage to cause just enough damage to the Fratellis boat to give them some time to get away, but not too far. Brand tries to call Harbor patrol for help, but the only response is static, so they have no way of knowing if the message got through.

Once the Goonies reach the island the race is on to solve the riddles and find the location of the buried treasure before trouble arrives. I imagine the periscope would be of some puzzle solving use, most likely with scratches on the glass that might be easily be regarded as damage from time, that when placed on the right rock would line up to the next location.

One of the Goonies, Andy, perhaps? remains on the boat and continues to try and call for help.

At some point in this part of the adventure, One Eyed Willie should play on the expectation of X marks the spot.
Once they find the treasures location, the Goonies load up their pockets as fast as they can. But , unfortunately for them ,the treasure would be kept in such a trap that in order to even see it, the hunter would have to seal themselves in the cave. The door to the treasure only opening when the entrance to the cave is closed.  A weight and pully system.I  would love for the way for the final puzzle to be solved is that someone has to remain behind. That there is no way to get around this. A lone skeleton corpse punctuating the puzzle.
Even though the door can be opened from the outside, they unfortunately fail to leave someone outside at the switch.
Something else about the puzzle should be time sensitive, that the treasure hunter has to act fast, and make a quick decision or die. Im picturing a hourglass made out of two skulls. the sand sifting between the mouth and eye sockets back and fourth.

Just as they solve the puzzle,An argument occurs when Mikey offers, and insists to stay. He Goonishly reasons that his days are already numbered due to his cancer and this way the rest of the Goonies can live happily on the gold.He asks Brand to take care of his kid "Willie". Raise him with "Andy" as their own child.Tell "Willie" he loves him etc etc.  The clock keeps ticking and a choice has to be made to get out of there quickly .But no one is willing to accept this choice. Goonies Never Say Die! and almost in unison they Goonies begin to speak the pledge:

"I will never betray my goon dock friends,
We will stick together until the whole world ends,
Through heaven and hell, and nuclear war,
Good pals like us, will stick like tar,
In the city, or the country, or the forest, or the boonies,
I am proudly declared a fellow Goonie!”

And just as they resign themselves to their fate, the door opens and its the  Fratellis, armed and very dangerous.  Data temporarily distracts them with one of his inventions, a bright light flash. (side note, at least one of his inventions from the previous movie should make a reappearance, and actually work this time) The Goonies make a break for it and push their way out the entrance, two of the three Fratellis following suit,  but Mikey, being furthest from the door, gets trapped inside with the Lady Fratelli whom we first met as the mysterious  fake"Chester Copperpot "relative .

She is an angry lass. She wants revenge for what they did to Agatha "Mama" Fratelli, her sister. Maybe even Sloth was her child, not Mama's? And when Sloth went to live with Chunk, she never got to see him again as she was a wanted woman and if she showed her face she could have been arrested and sent to jail for her many crimes.

She picks up a sword, Mikey does as well, and the two have a sword fight. Somewhere in the fight , Mikey gets one of his eyes cut.
Mikey manages to move her around the room and position her on the puzzles trigger to open the door. He quickly makes his exit , but before she can reach the door she is trapped inside.

Outside, Brand and the other Goonies have made a break for it , chased by the two other Fratellis. Mikey hears gunfire in the distance and runs toward the beach, fearing the worst.
Just as he breaks from the forests edge he is greeted by his now one eyed sight of several ships of the harbor patrol holding the Fratellis at bay. The baddies are arrested and our heroes celebrate surviving another day.

Cut to :  scenes of our Goonies in a happier place, bills payed, relationships rekindled.
And as our story winds down, we hear Mikey Walsh ,once again telling his son a bedtime story. The camera tracks down a hallway, lined with frames of pictures of the original cave, the new treasure island , newspaper clippings, town celebrating the Goonies: telling us visually some of the events that happened off screen after the Goonies were rescued. As the camera moves into a doorway of Willies bedroom we see the back of Mikey Walsh, sittin on Willies bed. Willie is rapt with attention as Mikey is telling the story of his most recent adventure, ( a story Willie surely has demanded his Dad tell him every night before bed) and as the camera pans around Mikey, and Mikey is coming to his last line,  we stop on his face: He is wearing an eye patch much like One Eyed Willies, and he is smiling, once again happy for whatever the future may bring.

And as we fade to black....we hear the Goonies theme one last time,....and Willie say" Tell it again Dad"
